Instructions for IV or General Anesthesia

Nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours prior to your procedure. You may take a small sip of water in order to take your pre-medications. Unless you are told otherwise, take all other medications as prescribed by your physician.

    • Arrange to have an escort to and from our office on the day of your procedure. You cannot drive yourself.
    • Wear a short sleeve loose fitting shirt. This allows easy access for the application of the blood pressure cuff; your sleeves won’t impede the placement of the IV line and will simplify the access for the EKG pads (if they are necessary).
    • All female patients in the child bearing years will be required to take a Urine Pregnancy Test in our office immediately prior to their procedure. Please plan to be able to provide a fresh urine sample here.
    • If you have been given a prescription for a pre-operative sedative (ex.: Valium), take as directed on the bottle.

Take 1 Valium tablet at bedtime the night before surgery. Take 1 Valium tablet ONE hour prior to surgery (with just a little bit of water – enough to swallow the pill)

  • If you have been given a prescription for prophylactic antibiotics, take them as directed on the bottle.
  • If you have any questions regarding your procedure or these instructions, please alert your Doctor or their staff. We will gladly clarify things for you.
  • IMPORTANT: If you were given prescriptions for your surgery at your consultation (IE: Valium Rx & Percocet Rx). You must to get them filled within 7 DAYS, They do EXPIRE.
